Work in progress
Spatial soccer analysis on StatsBomb open data. Reading tactics from where a team actually operates, not just how often it did something. Team and player shape from event and 360 freeze-frame coordinates, sliced by the scenarios that change a game: in and out of possession, leading or trailing, by phase of play, and against a particular opponent.
The subject season: an unbeaten league campaign with 360 freeze-frame coverage for every match, enough to ask where a side operates rather than only how often it acted.
Occupation density across the season, with a starting eleven at their average positions. Orange is on the ball, petrol is off it. Hover a player for name and detail.
Average position is where a player's actions cluster, not a formation slot. The two rarely agree, and the gap is the interesting part.
